The World Cup is into the final stages (finally), there’s more cricket around the corner for India (of course), and I’m off to Bangalore for 10 days (read on for why)!
And amidst all that, I’m launching the next batch of my Multimedia Sports Journalism course!
The batch starts on the 22nd of November, and there will be live lectures Monday to Saturday, 8-9:30 PM, for two weeks. Here are some of the topics I’ll be teaching:
DNA, my original formula for, well, originality.
Reactive Sports Content: My secrets on how to write Match Reports quickly and effectively.
Proactive Sports Content: How to write features and opinion pieces that are engaging and effective.
Ideation, documentation, research, and getting to your first draft.
Editing, and the different kinds of editing there are.
Video content, and how to hack YouTube.
Podcasts, and what kind of content you should be making for audio.
Building your own audience, and why that’s so important.
These topics are going to be deconstructed through case studies of successful pieces of content. We’re going to look at some of my work, but mostly the works of some of the best sports writers, to learn what we can from them.
For example, in the editing section, I’m going to share all my drafts of a piece I did for Cricbuzz on The Spirit of Cricket. This is what the editor there had to say about it:
Through my drafts, you’ll get an idea of exactly how the piece looked like in its first version, and what the final version looked like.
In the Proactive Sports Writing section we will look at some of the best pieces of writing around famous sporting events, and learn what we can from them. Rohit Brijnath, Sharda Ugra, et al, prepare to be deconstructed! :)
The course also includes mentorship from me for three months after completion through a What’s App Group, and beyond that, membership of my private content community through a dedicated FB Group. You’ll also get access to all future updates I make in the course, it’s something I’m continuously tinkering with.
Yes, there will be a list of internship opportunities shared at the end of the course (Some of my previous batch students have gotten very good opportunities soon after doing the course).
No, there are no guaranteed placements.
But you can look at what some of my previous students have had to say here:

Now, about Bangalore. There’s an update which I’m sharing with you guys before I post on socials!
I’m going to be in Bangalore for 10 days from the 10th to the 20th Nov for commentary on the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy (Yes, that is its actual name), knockout rounds. This will be broadcast on Hotstar. By the time you read this, I will already be on the plane and probably in quarantine!
I plan to stick around for a couple of days in Bangalore after that, so HMU with ideas of what I should do and who I should meet! I’ve already lined up a tennis ball cricket match!
See you next week!
